What you can do with GitHub

Configured inside Looph, with the setup steps on its integration page. Slack and Discord are on every plan, Free included; GitHub and Jira start on Starter, and Segment on Growth.

01From a post, create a GitHub issue or link existing ones. An optional comment on the issue shows the post's votes and followers, and Looph keeps it up to date.
02A pull request that refers to a linked issue moves the post to In progress. The issue closing, the pull request merging, both, or whichever comes first marks the post Complete: you choose which, and followers are told.
03A label you pick turns a GitHub issue into a Looph post on the board you choose, and each published GitHub release can become a draft changelog entry for a person to review and publish.

Native connection

How it works

Looph connects through the Looph GitHub App, which you install on the account or organisation and repositories you choose. Every repository starts switched off in Looph until you enable it. GitHub then tells Looph about issues, pull requests, releases and, for organisation Projects, status changes.

Status flows one way, from GitHub to Looph. Looph never closes, reopens or relabels an existing issue. It opens an issue only when someone asks it to, from the post, an automation, the REST API or the MCP server. A post moved by GitHub notifies its followers like any other status change, and its roadmap card moves with it. An issue closed as not planned leaves the post as it is, unless you change that under Advanced.

On a public board, linked issues show only if you switch on Show linked GitHub issues on the public board. Duplicate requests are common on public projects; merging them in Looph keeps every vote, comment and follower on one post, so the demand an issue shows reflects the real total.

Setup

Setting up GitHub

1Make sure the workspace is on Starter or above. Connecting needs the Integrations permission, which the owner and admins have by default.
2Open Settings, then Integrations, choose GitHub under Issue tracking, and choose Install GitHub App.
3On GitHub, install the app on your account or organisation, pick the repositories it can see and authorise it. You return to Looph.
4Under Repositories, tick the repositories posts can link to.
5Choose what marks a post Complete: the issue is closed, the pull request is merged, both, or whichever happens first. Optionally set a label that turns issues into posts and the board they go to, labels for issues created from Looph, and Show demand on the issue.
6From a post, choose Create GitHub issue or Link GitHub issue.
